Where Do You Find Your Affordable SEO Services?

Let’s be honest, SEO tactics are constantly changing. Not everyone has time to keep up with the current white hat SEO tutorials, let alone applying those techniques to their own sites and building backlinks to drive traffic to their sites. Building page rank, backlinks, traffic and ultimately sales takes a lot of time that many of us don’t really have to spare. This is especially true if we have to support ourselves with a day job during the launch of a start-up business or blog. This is where outsourcing or hiring an expert comes into play.

Which SEO consultancy services do you find to be the most affordable? What aspects of SEO do you outsource? Do This and Own Google’s Top Spots!

Ranking well on Google takes two things, good content and great links. But it’s not an even split. Because Google assumes only a page with good content would get great inbound links it puts about 70% of the importance for ranking on links and only about 30% on content. That little tidbit alone will put you head and shoulders above all those competitors still messing with META tags and spamming keywords. But if you want a huge advantage over the rest of your competition, keep reading. I’m about to show you how the pros do it and win every time.

Part 1: Perfect Your Anchor Text

So just what is anchor text and why is it important? Anchor text is the clickable word or words that make up the hyperlink. You’ve seen anchor text a million times (the underlined words that are typically blue. ) Google figures any words special enough to be used as a guide in a link are extra valuable, which makes anchor text extremely important for you to use properly.

Just how powerful is anchor text? More than most people dream. Try an experiment. Go to Google and search for “click here” (without quotes. ) The top match for years has been a page for Adobe Acrobat Reader. So does that Adobe page have “click here” copied 50 times in the text? No. In fact “click here” does not even appear on the page a single time! Does it have “click here” embedded in its META tags. No; again, not even once.

So how can it possibly rank number 1 on Google for a term it never even references? Because of the thousands of Webpages that use “click here” as the anchor text linking to Adobe’s free download of Acrobat Reader.

By the way, did you happen to notice how many pages Adobe beat out for a term they never optimized themselves for? Almost Two Billion! So yes, I have to say anchor text is extremely powerful.

Part 2: Build Linking Consistency

Most people don’t realize that even though http://www. Wikipedia. com and http://Wikipedia. com lead to the same Wikipedia homepage, they are seen as two different links by Google. Let’s take it a step further. If you keep the “www” and lose the “http” you have another link that goes to the same place but is treated as unique by Google.

All that said; be as consistent as possible when requesting links. Find one format and stick to it. One hundred inbound links to the exact same URL is much better than 25 links each, using four different URLs that lead to the same place.

Part 3: PageRank Leads to Page Rank

Google’s PageRank algorithm can make or break your search engine optimization efforts and plays a big part in your eventual Webpage rankings. So PageRank and page rank? Here’s a tip to end the confusion. When you see the single word “PageRank” it is referring to a trademarked name that Google owns. PageRank is a unit of measure that Google developed, and uses to determine the value of a Webpage. When you see the words “page rank” we are merely talking about how a Webpage ranks, or is positioned on a search engine for a given keyword.

So how does it work? A page with a GPR of 6 is considered very important by Google, while a page with a GPR of 0 is not so much. If you get links from pages with high GPRs you will build your own PageRank. If you get links from pages with no GPR, they can still help you but do not lend any additional PageRank credibility.

Higher GPR leads to more credibility with Google and possibly becoming what they consider to be an “authority” which can double your top placements, literally. To see what I mean, search for “cats” on Google (without quotes. ) The number 1 match is Wikipedia. com and references furry little felines. The number 2 match is also from Wikipedia but is about a Broadway musical.

So what? Notice how that second match is indented? That means it was not meant to be number 2 and might have actually been number 10 or 16 or more. But since Wikipedia. com is what Google considers an authority, it get’s little bumps like this. Pretty nice huh? And trust me, you don’t have to be Wikipedia to become an authority. Everything you need is in this article. I’ve done it many times.

There are different ways to see a page’s GPR. If you don’t already have it, visit Google and download their “Google Toolbar. ” It will show you the GPR of any page on the Web.

Part 4: Use the Best Tools

Last but not least, SEO is like anything else, if you use the best tools for the job your results will be faster, better and longer lasting.

Back in the day, search engine optimization professionals and do it yourselfers had to do everything by hand. It took forever and one simple mistake could mean weeks of work down the drain. Today however, there are plenty of software tools to help get the job done in a faction of the time. Just find the BEST one for what you want to accomplish.

For our particular needs, were looking for an app than can help with linking and build our “authority” status and check ranking progress. Over the past six or so years I’ve used nearly a dozen pieces of software claiming to be the best. Some were pretty good. Others were a waste. The one I most often recommend to my SEO seminar students is SEO Elite (http://www. SEOeliteWeb. com) because it gets amazing results and is one of the most affordable options at $167.

What Are Backlinks and Why Are They Important?

What are backlinks?
Basically, backlinks are just incoming links. That is, links that come from other websites to your website.
Why are they important?
Google and other search engines use the number of backlinks as one of the more important factors for determining your website’s search engine rank. What’s even more important than the number is the quality of the sites linking to you.
If, for example, you have a backlink on the Google homepage, search engines are going to say “Woh, Google’s an important site, this other site must be important too!”
How do I get backlinks?
Unfortunately, getting backlinks is a very time consuming process. You’ll find the process is something along the lines of: sign up to a website, find a category to put your site in, then write an article. Repeat. Please, just do me a favour and make sure you promote your site tastefully. For example, don’t go around spamming a whole lot of forum.
Some easy ways to get backlinks:
* Forums – There is usually a public or miscellaneous section. If you can find a forum related to your website, that’s even better
* Digg, StumpleUpon, Fark – On these websites, you’re allowed to post articles on cool videos, images or websites you found. Maybe you think your website is cool?
* YouTube – Post a video tutorial. For example, my site YouTubeKeep. com, I posted a tutorial on “How To Download YouTube Videos. ” You may want to try posting on MySpace Videos, MetaCafe, etc. too.
* MySpace – Make a MySpace (or other social network) profile for your website.
If you have friends who have related websites, ask them to put a link on their site and do the same for them.
The best way to get backlinks:
Have good-quality, useful content on your website. Then you won’t even need to beg people for backlinks, they’ll just link to you because your website is useful!
How to check your backlinks:
Go to Google and type the phrase “link:” in front of your website’s address.
For example: link:www. youtubekeep. com would show me the backlinks to the homepage of my website.
Where’s My Website in Search Results
You’ve got your website, you’ve started optimising it and you’ve gotten a Domain Tools’ SEO score of 99% for every page. Now what? Well, you need to wait a few days (or sometimes weeks) for the search engines to reindex all your webpages and find any backlinks from other webpages. Then, it will do its calculations and your pages will be listed in search results. Ideally, you want your website to be the first listing for all your keyphrases, but how can you check the easy way?
Is there an easy way to check what page I appear on for searches?
You could spend hours on Google, MSN and Yahoo, trying each keyphrase you think a user might enter to get to your website, and then look through each page for your website. Or you could think smart and not hard and use a tool!
The website is called ExactFactor.
All you do is enter a few keyphrases, a competitor’s site (optional) and it will tell you where you show up (what rank and page) for each keyphrase. You can tell it to search Google, MSN and Yahoo all in one go!
So give ExactFactor a go, it sure beats the alternative!

A Succinct Guide to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search Engine Optimisation is becoming increasingly important in today’s marketplace. Would you like to do your own SEO? If the answer’s yes, let’s begin.
*** Choose the right keywords ***
Identify the most popular keywords for your site using web and PPC data. Try the SEO Keyword Generator at http://www. searchengineoptimising. com/keyword_generators/overture. htm, the Google Keyword Tool at https://adwords. google. com/select/KeywordToolExternal, or the free trail of WebCeo avilable at http://www. webceo. com (Trail has a 5 keyword limit).
Use the information gathered to estimate the likely conversion ratios or use some pay per click advertising to identify your best performing keywords.
*** Optimise your Site ***
1. Get your best keywords inside the title, h1, h2, tags and menu items. You can also use bold to place emphasis on your keywords. Target 1 to 3 keywords per page.
2. Make sure there is no duplicate content. For example, does http://example. com and http://www. example. com show your pages but act as separate sites? If so, add a redirect to your . htacess file to redirect http://example. com to http://www. example. com.
3. Use mod_rewrite for dynamic pages to show them as static. Ensure they all have at least the title, description and keyword meta tags.
4. Ensure there is a good internal linking structure: Ensure links are visible in source code. Do not use JavaScript. It is possible to use a combination of CCS and JavaScript to produce attractive search engine friendly menus. For example, http://www. htmldog. com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/example/
5. Check for and fix broken links: Try: http://validator. w3. org/checklink
6. Ensure your HTML and CSS Validates. Try: http://validator. w3. org
*** Build Links ***
Now that you have a search engine friendly site, it is all about getting links.
1. Check the back links of your competitors and get your link where you can. Yahoo provides a much more complete list than google type links:www. yourcompetitorsaddress. com into the search box at http://www. yahoo. com.
2. Do whatever possible to get authority links. Link bait such as free tools, free guides or tutorials will make it easier.
3. Submit your site to web directories. A good search engine friendly list can be found at http://info. vilesilencer. com/seo-friendly-list. xls.
4. Write Articles and submit them to as many sites as possible. Don’t forget to add a link to your site in the Author section.
5. Use social networking sites, blogs and forums to build links to your site.
*** Keep the Link Juice Flowing! ***
If you ever need to change the domain, the structure or a web address within your site always implement a 301 Permanent Redirect, that way you can make the changes without risking your hard earned SEO results.

SEO Elite Software Review

SEO Elite is a search engine optimization software product designed to get user’s websites to the top of the search engines. Unlike most SEO tools, SEO Elite appears to be created for the average webmaster. The interface is very straightforward and built with a sort of “wizard-like” appearance.

There are 8 main project types within SEO Elite. Each project type represents an entirely new software product. So, essentially SEO Elite includes 8 software programs, all rolled into 1. The project types are as follows:

1. Analyze backlinks using a specified search engine

2. Get links to your website

3. Analyze allinanchor, allintitle, and allintext

4. Verify that link partners are still linking back

5. Find where your website is ranked in the search engines

For the most part, each project type is self-explanatory, but I will do my best to briefly explain each project type in our review below:

Project 1 review: Analyze backlinks using a specified search engine

The purpose of this project is to spy on your competition in order to see who is linking to them and exactly how they’re doing it. The theory here is that the search engines rank websites based primarily on the quality and quantity of sites linking the particular site in question. If the website has more quality links than another site, it will rank higher. With this SEO Elite project, you can quickly see who is linking to whatever site you enter into the software.

Project 2 review: Get links to your website

The purpose of this project is to do just that… Get links to your website. In order to rank higher in the search engines, you need websites to link to you. This project allows you to find quality websites and gathers their contact information, and then allows you to contact them from directly within the software… cutting down on the time it takes you to contact the potential link partner.

Project 3 review: Analyze allinanchor, allintext, and allintitle

This project type allows you to compare, side by side, the regular search results for a given keyword, as compared to Google’s advanced search criteria.

Project 4 review: Monitor whether link partners are still linking back

This project type allows you to input a links page on your website and SEO Elite will then visit each link partner on that page and will tell you whether or not they are still linking back to your site. We’ve found that many times link partners will just remove your link without you knowing.

Project 5 review: Monitor where your site is ranked in the SE’s

This project is a neat one in that it allows you to see where your site ranks for as many different keyword phrases as you want. SEO Elite also gives you a very nice little graph that visually shows rises and drops in ranking.

Project 6 review: Find out how many pages are indexed

You can input either your website or a competitor’s website and see how many of the website’s pages have been indexed by all of the major search engines. You can also see which pages, and the PR and Alexa rank of those pages.

Project 7 review: Find possible authority websites

I personally like this project type the most. You can input a keyword and SEO Elite will compare all of the top ranked website’s links and will tell you which are “common links” between all of the websites. Those common links are potential authority websites and ones that you should approach for a link exchange of some sort. A link from those sites will help your ranking the most.

Project 8 review: Submit your article to article directories

There are entire software applications that do nothing but submit your articles to article directories. What’s cool about this project type is that it’s essentially a $100+ program al rolled into 1 project type. There are roughly 50 article directories within SEO Elite and this project type steps you through submitting to the directories in a very straightforward, easy way.

To conclude our review of SEO Elite, I would say that it is a solid program that was easy to use. There was a manual that came with this software, as well as many tutorial videos… but to be honest, the software was so straightforward, we found ourselves not really needing to read any help guides etc. SEO Elite gets two thumbs up.

SEO Primer – 7 Basics of SEO

Getting you started with Search Engine OptimizationThis article is for the new web designer or business owner who wants to achieve a good placement for their web site in the search engines but doesn’t know how. We are going to look at 7 Basics of SEO below. These aren’t the only things you will want to know about SEO, but these are the areas you should learn about first. I have the topics listed in the order that you should approach them. Some topics will only take you a minute, some will take a little longer (cleaning up HTML code), and others will become an ongoing process (Keywords). But, after reading through this list you should have a good handle on where to start and where to proceed next. SEO Basic 1. Let’s start off with a definition. If you don’t understand what SEO is then you will not be able to properly optimize your site. SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization” and is the process by which you Optimize (adjust) your web site so that it is positioned well in the search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc). This is not the same thing as designing a site so that it attracts customers and entices them to buy. That is a completely different discussion. SEO is what you do specifically on your site to improve your Search Engine Position. If you do a search on Google for any search term you will be presented with a list of links. At the top of the page and along the right side will be PPC (Pay-Per-Click) links where someone pays an amount per click to get positioned. Basically with PPC, the more you pay the better your position. Most people only glance at these listings. You don’t need SEO to get one of these positions, just lots of money. The main section of page contains the “natural” or “organic” listings. These links are listed in the order that Google has determined best fit your search query, with the best match listing first. There are only 10 listings per page and most people will only look at the 1st page, and maybe the 2nd. So your site needs to be listed within the top 10 and at the very worst within the top 20 to get any useful exposure. This is where SEO comes in. With SEO you will be adjusting your sites code so that the search engine will rank your site high up in the listings. This can be a daunting process as there may be tens of thousands of sites competing for the same top listing. One trick here is to aim your pages at less popular search terms to get higher placement. It is much better to be on the top of page one for a term that gets 1000 searches per month than to be on page three for a search term that gets millions of visits (almost no one looks at page three or beyond). SEO Basic 2. Your web site has to be search engine friendly, so fix any bad code. The search engines send out “spiders” or “bots” that look over the whole internet, cataloging and categorizing web pages that they come across. If the search engine runs into trouble getting through your pages then it will either rank your page poorly, or worse skip your site all together. Making your site Search Engine Friendly means having the code easily accessible (no frames), not having mistakes in the code (check the code for errors), and guiding the search engine through your web site (good navigation). So, try to steer away from complicated coding as much as possible. Things like Flash web sites look great, but they can cause search engine problems. Check your site for any coding errors, this is fairly easy to do with web design programs like Dreamweaver which will do this for you automatically. And, plan on having a text based navigation bar on every page. This is usually placed at the bottom of the pages. You may also want to consider having a “Site Map” page in your web site with easy to follow text based links to all of your important pages. Search Engines will look for a Site Map page and will use that to navigate a web site if available. SEO Basic 3. By far the #1 Most Important Aspect of SEO is: Keywords. Keywords are the terms you type into a search engine to find interesting web sites to look at. You need to know what search terms people are likely to use to find your web site and then use those terms as your Keywords on your site. Start by making a list of all the keyword combinations you can think of that you would use to find your web site. Try them all on a search engine and see what you come up with. You now need to see how these search terms perform on the web and what other possible search terms could be used for the same sites. There are several tools on the internet to help you with this research. A great free tool is available at Google:https://adwords. google. com/select/KeywordToolExternalGoogle will let you type in a search term then give you a list of similar search terms, how often they were searched in the previous month and some advertiser comparison figures for Google Adwords. This allows you to quickly find additional keywords and to see how well they perform. As we mentioned in SEO Basic 1 a good idea is to optimize your site for a less frequently used keyword or keyword combination so that you can achieve a higher placement. The Google Keyword Tool will help you figure this out. Look for only 1 or two keywords to focus on in any given page. Many times keywords will overlap, so you can focus on a longer keyword combination and cover many other keyword combinations at the same time. For instance if you are designing a page to sell Photoshop Training you can optimize for this keyword phrase “Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets” This will not only give you optimized performance for this keyword combination but also for these other keywords and combinations as well:AdobePhotoshop TrainingAdobe PhotoshopPhotoshop TrainingAdobe Photoshop TrainingPhotoshop Training VideoAdobe Photoshop Training VideoPhotoshop Training Video SetsSo try to come up with a multiple keyword combination that will contain several other keyword combinations as well. Once you know what keywords you want to use you are ready to place those keywords on your page. The main places you want to use the keywords are:In the title of the page (title meta tag)In the description of the page (description meta tag)In the first sentence on the pageIn all of the image alt tagsIn links to and from the pageWell represented in the body text of the pageThe keyword meta tag is no longer looked at by the search engines, but I still put my keywords in that tag so that I have an easy reference for my own use when doing SEO. Make sure you Pick the right keywords, and make sure they cover more than 5% of the word usage on the page. An easy way to get more keywords onto a page is by using lists such as:We carry:• Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets for Educators• Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets for Students• Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets for Business• Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets for Hobbyists Keep in mind that your page text should still be user friendly. If you use your keywords too frequently or in strange ways on your page, it may rank better in the search engines, but it will drive away visitors. Who wants to read a poorly written page?SEO Basic 4. “Don’t try anything funny”. There are lots of “tricky” things you can do to cram more keywords into a page without annoying your visitors. The problem is that the search engines know about these tricks and will penalize your site if you use them. So don’t do any of the following or you may find your web site disappear completely from the search engine listings. White letters on white background, or any other similar text coloring trick. Even using a very light gray text on a white background, or very dark gray text on a black background can get you bumped from the search engines. Don’t repeat your keyword over and over again. People used to do things like this at the top or bottom of their pages: Photoshop Photoshop Photoshop Photoshop Photoshop. The worked in the early days of search engine optimization, but no longer. You should also not try this trick in alt tags, image names, links or other places in your code. The search engines will spot this and you will be penalized. Don’t put keywords into comment tags like this: . Also don’t put keywords in hidden form fields like this: : . The search engines will spot these and mark you down accordingly. For the same reason don’t create any hidden links as a place to hide keywords. Even though putting keywords into image names and alt tags is a great idea, don’t think that you can just create a bunch of clear gif images sized at 1×1 and fill those with keywords. The search engines are very good at spotting tricks like this as well. So, use your keywords appropriately, don’t try to sneak one past the search engines and you should do just fine. Just keep in mind, if you think that you need to hide the keywords to trick the search engine you can rest assured that they have already thought of that and will do their best to devalue your site accordingly if you use these “black hat” tricks. SEO Basic 5. All pages should have links to other pages. The main search engines like links. They like outside sites linking into yours but they also like links within your site going to other pages. So in this case having more pages can be useful. Also since you now have all these pages that you are linking to it gives you a great place to use some more keywords. Make sure that your links include your keywords. But, and this could have been in section 4 above, don’t create “doorway pages” that redirect you to another page. It used to be common SEO practice to create lots (hundreds) of doorway pages, each one stuffed with specific keywords, all of which would redirect the visitor to the actual page they were looking for. This would give your site lots of pages, with lots of internal links and would allow you to tightly optimize these doorway pages for specific keywords, but . . .   the search engines have gotten wise to this trick and now penalize the use of redirect pages. So don’t use redirects unless you absolutely need to. And never use doorway pages. SEO Basic 6. Only try to optimize a page for one or two keyword groups. More than that just dilutes your keyword ratio. The search engines will analyze your web page to determine which words are used as keywords. They do this by looking at the title, the description, the page heading and the word use on the page. They will then determine how relevant your keywords are to your page. So if you try to use too many different keywords on a page it will only bring down the percentage of any individual keyword or group for that page. It is better to optimize for a larger keyword group as discussed above than to try to optimize a page for a lot of individual keywords that can’t be easily used on one sentence. If you need to have a page optimized for several different, unrelated keywords you are better off creating several different pages and re-writing the body text on each page to match the keywords you are optimizing for. This will make each page relevant for the specific keyword and will get a better placement in the search engines. SEO Basic 7. Be patient. Even with a perfectly optimized web site it can take several months for it to rise in the search engine standings. I usually recommend waiting at least 90 days and up to 6 months to see how well a web page is doing in the search engines. Also, even though you have gone to great lengths to target a specific keyword or keyword combination keep in mind that the search engines aren’t required to agree with you. So when checking your standings look at several different search terms that you discovered in your research and see how well your page is placing. Hopefully you will find that your chosen keywords are getting your page listed the way you want, showing that your SEO has worked properly. If you find that your page is ranking better for a different keyword, you should examine your page code to see why and make adjustments as needed. Maybe your page is placing higher for a keyword combination you weren’t focusing on, but it is still a good combination for your goals. This gives you an ideal opportunity to go with that new combination to achieve even higher placing. So, get started right now on your SEO. The longer you wait, the longer it will be before your web site is showing well up in the search engines.
