Tips for Creating Keyword-Targeted Articles

To search engines, the title of a web page is a top indicator of its relevancy to a given query. If you insert the right keywords in your article title, you improve the odds of being found in searches, which is organic seo. But after writing dozens, perhaps hundreds, of articles on the same niche topic, inventing new titles turns into a real challenge. Where can you look to for new article title ideas that fit your niche website?

Sources for article title ideas

Use search engine suggestions. Go to Google and type the keywords you are targeting in your articles, for instance, “thai massage videos?” As you do, you may see phrase suggestions appearing below the search bar. Use these suggestions to develop new article titles.  You can try the phrase itself or a variation, or both. It is rare that Google won’t have any suggestions at all. Try rephrasing your keyword search if your first attempt turns up nothing useful.

Use a site statistics tool. Originally mean to monitor traffic to your website, a statistics tool can be a keyword mine as well. Look for a feature in the tool that shows recent “keyword searches” by visitors who found your site.  This will not only show you what keywords you do rank for, it also gives you ideas for new article titles. You might be surprised at the way some people phrase their queries. You may never have thought of it that way. Save this information for ideas.

Look in help forums. Both general help forums like Yahoo Answers and niche forums are useful here.  Look at thread titles, questions and forum sections for keyword ideas.  For instance, someone may ask, “How do I make animal smileys on Facebook?”

These are excellent sources for titles because they are used by real people looking for information about that subject.

Where to insert the title

Once you have a title for a new article, make sure you insert it in the right place. If this is a web page, insert it between the <title> and </title> tags in the HTML code. If this is a blog post, insert the title in the title field of your article. Don’t overuse the title or the keywords though. And don’t try to repeat the exact phrase in the first paragraph or some other trick like that.  Write naturally and make sure your targeted keywords or key phrases appear throughout the article body.
