Search Engine Optimization helps your website earn the required visibility in the jumbled and vast field of the Internet. SEO tactics help a website to evolve a supreme working chemistry with different search engines. However, different search engines, like Google, Yahoo and others have dissimilar optimization strictures.

Let us examine some commonly used and most efficient SEO techniques.

Get your basics right: First of all, your site should not have duplicate content, but should contain attractive URLs, page titles and the likes. SEO starter guides are available for easy reference while designing your site.

External link text: Most SEO experts aver that this is an indispensable SEO tactic. Link text provides links from and to your site and web pages.

Use of Widgets: They help you to acquire link backs from several sites. But you need to provide a static link in each widget. The flip side is that some search engines do not like them.

Employing useful tools like Google’s Keyword & Trends helps gain an understanding on search term volumes.

AdWords and similar services help to determine and select terms that convert best. Do not make any guesses here and always take professional tips from these PPC services.

Be specific in your content, keywords etc. You need to come at the top on a search result page if people should visit your site. So you can make the main topic relevant and attractive by adding one or more general terms to it. Remember, all the people visiting the Internet are not rocket scientists, but simple people with specific needs.

Never sign up for paid link services. You can take basic help from any SEO consultant for redesigning your site in a search engine friendly manner, but never involve any paid up link services to gain visibility.

Never use a no-follow link. Search engines often ignore such links. Popular blogs use such links only, but your site, being designed for purpose, should have a link that every search engine would easily pick up.

Submitting sitemaps to search engines like Google can also help in a limited way.

Make your content page interesting. But there is no need to concentrate on keywords only. Creating several pages of attractive and distinctive content can be as useful as specific keywords. But it requires much design knack from your part.

Do not clutter your site with too much pages, links and text. The search engine would pick up your specific texts and keywords easily if the matter is fewer and precise.

This SEO tutorial provides only small steps towards search engine optimization. A little care during site design stage would go a long way in making your online business a roaring success.

12 Search Engine Optimization Tips

SEO TutorialInternet Marketing Tools

Search engines want to feed searchers the best information and so do you.

Make sure you have the most content, feature it in a search engine friendly site, and then start to build your link popularity over time.

SEO does not have to be intimidating or very hard. Sure, there is a lot more that you can learn, but at the heart of it all, it is rather basic.

8 Web Design Pitfalls that Can Ruin Your Rankings

1) Do not get fancy.

Follow this rule. The simpler the better. Your site should have more text than fancy HTML. To make sure your site is search engine friendly; use as much text and basic HTML as possible.

2) Do not use Flash.

Flash is useless for SEO. Don’t waste precious resources on your site for flashy graphics.

3) Do not use image text.

Many sites have beautiful headlines. They create these in Photoshop and upload the images! Doing this instead of using the H1 tag seriously undermines your odds of ranking well.

4) Do not use fancy navigation menus. Remember, text links with rich anchor text are far better than image links so don’t use any buttons for your navigation and especially avoid using drop down menus.

5) Don’t go after too many keywords per page.

If you don’t focus, you are going to dilute your page and as a result it will not get a good ranking for any keyword.

6) Do not over optimize.

If you push the limits and add your keywords everywhere, you will get penalized. Always do what is best for the reader.

7) Do not fall for bad linking practices. Never link to or collect links from bad sites that are just trying or promising to help boost search engine rankings.

8) Don’t fall for the latest fad.

You will often hear of BRAND NEW search engine optimization strategies. Don’t fall for them. Even if they work, they will most likely only work temporarily.

Another important key of search engine optimization is to build your “link popularity. ” You have to get other sites to link to you. While this is extensively covered in another tactic, here are a few quick ways to get started.

4 Quick Steps to Start Building Link Popularity

1) Submit your site to Yahoo!: Getting listed in the Yahoo! directory costs $299 per year but it is well worth it since Yahoo! is a huge authority site. It will help boost your PageRank and help with SEO.

2) Submit your site to Dmoz: Go to dmoz. org and submit your site to the appropriate category. Then wait 6 weeks and repeat. Getting into dmoz is hard and may take months of waiting but it is well worth trying.

3) Get into Wikipedia: Wikipedia is the fastest growing online directory. What makes it unique is that it is open source. Anyone can add, edit, and delete content.

It is a wonderful resource and has hundreds of thousands of pages with excellent resources. Every page includes links to “External Resources. ” Find relevant pages on Wikipedia, create excellent copy on topic resources and then link to them from Wikipedia.

4) Get links from expert/authority directories in your field: Almost every space has at least a few expert sites that list all of the main resources. Find these sites and try to get listed.

There is one very important thing to keep in mind ‘ SEO is not a quick fix to boost your business.

We have listed the things that you can start doing today to boost the position of your site in search engines.

However search engines work differently. They take months to update their index and rankings! So you must be patient, but the rewards are well worth it.

People who are looking for and using Photoshop 7 Tutorials, even if they have an extensive technical vocabulary at their disposal, will always prefer to read something that they can grasp immediately.
Step 2 Focus on One Topic
A Photoshop 7 tutorial will be more effective if you focus on one topic alone. Focusing on just one topic will allow you to provide as much information as necessary regarding it. Having multiple topics for one Photoshop 7 tutorial will also require you to condense explanations and descriptions. If you do this, you risk reducing the quality and clarity of your instructions.
Step 3 Make an Outline
It’s always best to prepare an outline for any tutorial you wish to make because it allows you to see the sequence of your article. Evaluate then whether the outline you’ve prepared is logically ordered and coherent.

Screenshots are effective when you’re teaching them to navigate around Photoshop. Before and after images are also useful to show the effect of a particular Photoshop function. Highlight what needs highlighting.
Step 6 Uploading the Photoshop 7 Tutorial
There are a lot of free web hosting providers to choose from, so make sure that you end up with one that will provide you with all of the following: a URL that has easy name recall as well as sufficient disk space and bandwidth.
Step 7 Designing Your Website

PLR Membership Sites – The Essentials

If you want to learn about PLR (Private Label Rights) Membership Sites, then read this article all the way to the end. Specifically, I will cover why you should join a Private Label Rights Membership Site, if you are considering becoming an Internet Marketer. You will gain knowledge of where some Membership Sites go wrong and what a good Membership Site should have that makes it the one for you. If you put this information to use, you should feel more at ease when choosing a good Membership Site to join. Here are three points why joining a Private Label Rights Membership site is vital to your Internet Marketing Journey.

Private Label Rights is the easiest way to start Internet Marketing. It is a “learn while you earn” type of business. Private Label Rights Membership Sites offer PLR products in all kind of niches.

However, not all PLR Membership Sites have quality products and some have limited resources that relate to setting up a blog or website to market your products.

Essentials that a good Private Label Rights Membership Site should have:

There is a lot that can be improved in Private Label Rights Membership Sites. The writer has found that in most cases, these essentials are lacking in most of the “self acclaimed” Top Private Label Rights Membership Sites.

Gaining a higher trust from the membership is essential. However, it seems that there is a generation of Private Label Rights Membership sites that are only interested in one thing and that is to get your name and email address in order to build a list and then try to get you to buy every product that has ever been invented.

In a recent survey which I asked the question – “What do you think Membership Sites need to offer?” – some of the more valid responses relating to the question have been listed below with my response:

1. Good, honest, truthful help, to help me understand the marketing process better as well as SEO tactics. Also, would like to have someone there that would really take the time to help.

My Response: Ethic’s is something that many Internet Marketers lose sight of. It seems that they trade off their ethics for the cash. When setting up a Free Membership, it is important to remember that you give more than you get. Even though you are making a living from your Membership site, it is important to do business with a high moral code and standard.

The biggest misuse on the Internet is of the word “secrets”- this word is used too freely when marketing Reports or eBooks. It is luring the reader to believe that they will gain some “secret” that only the author knows, when in fact it is nothing more than a statement that has got the reader intrigued and the only way to satisfy the intrigue is to pay for the information.

SEO is a very relevant issue – probably not a subject that I would consider in line with the Membership issue – and to try and cover it here would be a long journey for both you as the reader and me as the writer. Collectively, you would need to take all of the ebooks written on the subject, you would say that they each have valid and good points, but you need to digest them all before you can put together the whole picture. By digesting valid points from each eBook that the writer has read on the subject bringing each point into practice and validating what does work.

The writer was able to demonstrate this, by putting theory into practice and all of the “tips and secrets” learned. On May 14th the writer took one of her websites which had an Alexa Ranking of 5,584,593 and a Google Page Rank of -0/10, she applied the newly learned knowledge of SEO from the stacks of ebooks that she had read, and within two months she managed to cause the website’s Alexa Ranking to be less than 500,000 and also bring the Google Page Rank to 2/10. According to what is written in most SEO ebooks, this would be impossible to do. But nevertheless she did it. How? By reading the many ebooks and gleaning information from all of them.

2. Membership sites should stay on track and not chop and change re their initially stated reason for being set up in the first instance.

My Response: 100% Correct – Membership Sites should always be focused on the subject of their Members’ initial reason for joining.

3. I think it would be a great place where one could turn to and discuss topics that others have come across, so everyone could be helpful to everyone else. After all, we were put here to serve and this would be one way to give back.

My Response: This is a comment the writer is in full agreement with. Forums are great membership sites and that is what they are all about – somewhere for people to talk to other people about the subject that they are both interested in.

4. Not be badgered about upgrading. Small steps to gain full access. Something usable that I can implement and make a few bucks from rather than just storing it on my hard-drive.

My Response: Yes, by small steps, the membership site should be one that allows its members to explore first and have available any further offers as the member feels they need. One of the most annoying things encountered on most membership sites, are the One Time Offers. Site owners Give Away a Free Membership, and then offer an Upgrade once you are in. While the practice of Free Membership is not a bad thing, the One Time Offer should be just that. An offer made “one time”. But what is in theory a good thing, in practice becomes something else entirely. Most membership sites dish up the same one time offer every time you log in, and that does not promote a feeling of honesty or ethics on the part of the site owner. This practice should be avoided. Make the offer and then leave it to the individual to make the decision if they need it later. Have the product available on the inside of the membership; however not at the “reduced price” it was initially offered during the OTO.

5. Lots of free gifts and giveaways, everyday of the week.

My Response: Free giveaways are always nice. There are several issues that arise within this “request”- the first being that you can only give away products that have a license to give away. A number of products don’t allow you to “Give” them away, therefore you need to remember that the license is an extremely important factor in what you can give or must sell to your members.

The writer has taken part in several Giveaways to help “build the list”. The one thing that was noticed with the people who were happy to receive the very valuable giveaway item(s), was that these “Freebie Seekers” are just that. They want everything for free, but are unwilling to even open an email that is sent to them afterwards. Conclusion: The quality of that list is zero.

Conclusion: Private Label Rights Membership Sites should be totally focused on their members. Make available the tools and tutorials that help the members to become responsible, ethical and skilled marketers, and set an example by being ethical in their marketing practices themselves.

Internet Marketing and SEO Tips – How to Build Traffic to Your Website Easy

So you’ve got your own website for your business or personal page. That’s the first step. However, just putting together a site isn’t the only thing you need to do. After all, the Internet is a huge place, and a single site can get lost pretty quickly. You need to generate traffic for your site if you want visitors to come and check out what you have to offer! To do that, you need to do a little marketing. This is optional for personal sites, but a must if you operate a business website. This is a simple fact. Unfortunately, most people don’t know how to get this traffic when they’re first starting out. Here’s a short tutorial on how to increase your website’s targeted traffic and get the visitors you need. There are two basic ways to get the traffic you’ve been looking for. One is to pay for it. However, most beginners don’t have the money to do that. If you’re in that boat, you do have another option. However, you’ll need to put in a lot of work – traffic doesn’t come easy. Any business wants customers to eventually make it to the sales page. This final destination is where visitors ultimately need to be pointed. However, not every method has to send your visitors there right away, and doing so can be a big mistake. There are steps in between finding a possible customer and asking them to buy. Think about it – how would you feel if a stranger walked up to you and demanded money for a product? One of the simplest methods you can use to build traffic is by using original articles. You need to create a strong article on the subject and submit it to a site, such as an article directory. Then, add a resource box pointing people to your blog (you have one, right?) The blog will include a review of the product you’re hoping people will buy from you. The sales page link doesn’t come in until the end of the review, and will direct people to purchase. This is a simple, but effective way to build strong traffic to your site. Another effective method uses an article, but the resource box points not to a blog, but to a lens on Squidoo. Lenses offer features that blogs don’t, including the ability to include polls, questionaires, videos and many other interactive options. You’ll need a link or two to the sales page on the lens as well. Your reader needs to see real, solid content if they’re going to trust you about buying. Another article driven method for building traffic directs prospective customers to your squeeze page. A squeeze page is is a webpage that’s there to get information from customers. It has no outside hyperlinks. On this page, they submit some contact information to sign up for a free newsletter or related report about the industry or something else related to the product. You send the newsletter (make it full of quality information) and links to your sales page are included. This is an excellent method of traffic generation, since it rewards the viewer with something they want.

The Essential 2007 Code Optimization Tutorial for SEO

Do you want to get the traffic you deserve flooding into your website? Code optimization is an essential component of the search engine optimization process and if you aren’t technically minded then it can be difficult to get your head round. This guide is meant for beginners and more advanced webmasters alike.

A shallow knowledge of HTML coding is useful however it is not necessary.

Optimizing your code can be done by simply opening your html document in a text editor and changing different parts as shown below. Follow these steps carefully and your code will become 100% search engine optimized are ready for promotion and link-building campaigns.

The steps below assume you have chosen the keywords which you want to optimize the page code for. If you have not done that, go and do that now and return to this guide later.

HTML Code Optimization

The optimization of your HTML code for search engines is vital. It is the base of your SEO campaign. It must be optimized in a number of ways in order to improve the relevance of a chosen keyword. Follow the advice below as closely as possible. The closer the better and the higher your rank will be.

Remember: Keywords are the words people will use in search engines. Including a keyword in your site content (and optimizing your site) will cause your site to be returned as a search result. You can choose to optimise your page for a keyword or a keyphrase (a number of related words, eg: ‘free red hats’). Using a keyphrase is more advantageous (as discussed later) but for simplicity, I will refer to keywords AND keyphrases as just keywords.

TIP: Try to optimize each page for just one keyword. This will stop each keyword competing against each other for weightings and you will rank higher for the chosen keyword.

The TITLE Tag

Location: just below the tag

‘Web Promotion, Affiliate Marketing, SEO’ for example

1. The title tag should not contain any of the words Google disregards. These are words like ‘and’, ‘not’, ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘about’ etc which are too common for Google to take any notice of. Using these words will dilute the importance that your keyword is given in your title (if you put it in your title). These words are known as ‘stop’ words.

2. Include your keyword in the title of your page. Including other words in your title that are not your chosen keyword/s will be detrimental to your ranking. This is because it makes your keyword seem less relevant to the title of the page. This relevance is known as ‘weight’. The more weight your keyword has in a certain criteria the better.

3. Don’t include the name of your website in the title of your page: for example ‘Share The Wealth –affiliate marketing’. This is because it will dilute the prominence of your keyword (in this example ‘affiliate marketing’). It is tempting to include your site’s name as it may look better, however it is not that important as people don’t pay much attention to the title.

The Meta tags

Location: just below the title tag. Meta data appears as follows:

1. This is where you specify your keywords: . Keep following the rule of having as few words as possible to increase the weight of your keyword.

2. Also, weight is given to how near your keyword is to the beginning of your keywords list. So you should try to have your most important keyword in the place of ‘keyword1′ in the above example.

1. The above line is where the description, shown in google results, in written. It goes after content=”. Do not worry about keyword weighting in here as search engines do not take this into consideration anymore.

The BODY of your HTML

Once you have written the content of your page, you can begin SEO on it. Complete the page ready for publishing and then apply the following rules to it to ensure its optimized 100% for the top search engines.

1. Your keyword should appear in bold at least once on your page. This will show the search engines that the word, your keyword, is important to the subject of your page and so must be relevant to the keyword search performed by the search engine user.

2. Your keyword should have a weight of 2% on your page. This is the ideal percentage as if it is too high a search engine may penalize your page for spamming. Spamming is a term used to describe the action of webmasters that trick search engine page ranking systems (SEPRS) into thinking they are relevant in order to get a high ranking. These pages will not usually be relevant at all and simply ‘‘cash In” selling advertising space with the high traffic they receive. Spamming is increasingly becoming a thing of the past as the search engine page ranking algorithms become more sophisticated. To work out the percentage weight your keyword has, visit www. live-keyword-analysis. com .

3. Use heading tags ( heading etc) and put your keyword into the heading. Again the usual weighting rules exist. Have your keyword as close to the beginning of the heading and have as few other words in the heading. Position this heading as close to the top of your page as you can for increased relevance.

4. Put your keyword in up to three of the alt attributes for images and include it in one of the first three alt image attributes in your code. Alt image attributes are the alt tags given to images in your code which can be seen if the image fails to load. These are great for hosting your keyword as the users cannot usually see them. Don’t spam though, stick to three alt tags. Alt tags are used as follows:

5. Keep your page content between 100 and 1400 words. This is for a number of reasons, including the size of Google’s page cache (amount of data from a page Google stores). If you have too much content, you could try splitting the page into two separate pages and perhaps having a ‘page 2′ link at the bottom of the content.

6. Your keyword should appear at the beginning of your content and at the end (The first and last 50 words)

Code Optimization Checklist

• No stop words in your title tag

• Keyword included in title

• Website name not included in title

• Keyword in meta keywords list

• Keyword placed as close to the beginning of the meta keywords list as possible

• Keyword appears in bold at least once in the content

• Keyword has a 2% weight

• Keyword is in the first heading tag and is at the top of the page content

• Keyword is in the first 50 words and last 50 words of the page

• Page content is between 100 and 1400 words

• Keyword is in one of the first three alt image attributes and is in three of them in total

Tips and Advice

• Try to optimize each page for just one keyword. This will stop each keyword competing against each other for weightings and prominence and you will rank higher for the chosen keyword.

• Not every page of your site will be able to be optimized for every criterion. Don’t worry; just try to hit each criteria as best you can. Sometimes you won’t be able to achieve a content size of above 100 words: on a contacts page for example. Issues like this are of little importance as not every page will have a particular need for perfect optimization, because surfers will find contact information from a link shown on the home page.

• Constantly check your competition. You may not feel it is possible to get onto the first page on Google for a certain keyword/phrase. Choose a less contested keyword: visit one of the two websites described below.

SEO an Overview
The objective of Search Engine Optimization is to increase web visitor counts by ranking very high in the results of searches using the most appropriate keywords describing the content of your site. This relative ranking is often viewed as a struggle to best use a few keywords, instead of a struggle to out-do your competition. If you search on your target keywords, you will see the leading site in the rankings. All you need to do is to be better than that number one site. This page suggests ways to optimize and improve search engine results with ranking and placement advice, placement hints, tips, and clues to improve your search engine keywords relative to existing leaders. After all, better keyword ranking is your real objective.
It is not enough to simply add META tags and do search engine submission of your site to a million search engine indexes and directories. The first placement step in obtaining significant web visitor counts is to seek first-page search engine results. An early step is to build a great content-rich site. One of the last steps is the proper submission of your great site to the search engine or directory. In the middle is a step that is VITAL if you want to obtain front-page results, and most sites skim past this step because it is forgotten or too complex, but without competent Search Engine Optimization you are destined to be search engine fodder.

There are no Search Engine Optimization secrets — just ranking and placement methodologies to follow in order to beat your competition in obtaining a high ranking for desired search keywords. This site targets improving search engine rankings by using a “follow the leader” approach to keyword selection and page wording. Once you know what keywords and search engine marketing services (not spam) worked for the “leaders”, you can “beat the leader” and do even better! Proper Search Engine Optimization requires that you beat your competition, so knowing the keywords and criterion used by your competition is the most important first step. It will become obvious that good ranking excludes keyword spamming the search engine, and that with the careful selection of your keywords that you will fare well for a little effort. Bruceclay. com offers help, hints, and tips for improving search engine results via a specific search engine keywords placement methodology.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the science of search as it relates to marketing on the web. It is mostly technical in nature, combining programming with business, persuasion, sales, and a love for competitive puzzle solving into a written form capable of maintaining desired revenue goals while achieving high rankings in the organic sections of search engine results pages. It is not just technical, nor copywriting, nor links, nor just search engine submission, but an intricate blend of over a hundred variables into the fabric of a website. It is difficult to accomplish without a formal proven methodology and strong proprietary tools. We offer you a tutorial on all of that and more on these pages. . .

Before you start, you should understand that top 10 rankings with every single major search engine and directory can be obtained, although very few sites can get there and the effort is often beyond reason. Note: URL ranking results change week-to-week due to competition, so maintaining a top ranking requires constant keywords monitoring and information rework. Search Engine Optimization never rests, much like your competition.

The key information on this page includes how to prepare both you and your site for the search engines, choosing the right keywords, how to analyze your competition, what is submission and how is it best accomplished, when to monitor your ranking, instructions for performing an analysis of your site results, complete with tools and aids. This site covers all basic and advanced strategies and the common mistakes to avoid.

Develop A Website Using These Principles:
Before submission you must have prepared your site for search engine placement. If your site is not prepared for top ranking then a submission service can only give you many, many poor rankings.
Consider techniques for counting visitors and have a demographics collection process (newsletter registration or perhaps a Guest Book or equivalent) for capturing visitor name and email information.
1. It must showcase the need that your product addresses (public interest)
2. It must showcase the solution that you are offering.
3. It must provide instant gratification (for information and access to the solution).
4. It must provide appropriate and timely information (in images and words) to allow the visitor to make a decision. Help them to decide that your product meets their needs.
5. Allow the visitor to buy your product (or, if a service, allow them to contact you).
6. Allow for easy information requests if questions arise anytime, day or night. Always respond promptly!
7. Consider techniques for counting visitors and have a demographics collection process (newsletter registration or perhaps a Guest Book or equivalent) for capturing visitor name and email information.
8. Change the site often (at least once per week) to give users a reason to visit again and again.
9. Consider offering a “gift” to visitors (free is best, perhaps a contest) to have them tell their friends to visit your site. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. We have our own “tell-two-friends” referral script on our site.
10. Have the site be “High Class”. Curb appeal is important in determining if you want surfers to stop and visit. Opinions will be formed early about whether the customer wants to do business with you. Plan improvements. (Regardless of what you may think, every site on the Web is under construction all of the time). Make sure that your web site design does not violate any taboos.
11. Design for the masses. Do not use exceptionally advanced technology unless that is your product. The Web is still connected to a lot of slow computers, and many do not operate on the latest Netscape or Internet Explorer products. Keep it simple and still meet your web site design and promotion goals. The toys must be appropriate to the mission of your web site.
12. Write the text and “storyboard” your site much like creating a good product specification. Use a word processor to lay-out all of your pages. Make sure that the flow is simple for the novice Internet user. Try to keep the body content each Web page to one to two 8½ x 11 sheets of paper, or if heavy information, minimize graphics and limit the size to no more than six pages. Focus on making the message clear. Creativity, and how quickly the page loads, is more important than the use of extra artwork for the sake of “cute”. And when this is done, call a Marketing Consultant first, definitely before you call a web page designer. Message and Placement sell on the web.
13. It is important to consider some aspects of eCommerce: web-based commerce with a human touch is very effective in most cases, especially with 60% to 70% of all shopping carts being abandoned. Do not design around human contact if it increases the ability to sell your products. Factor it into your design. While this may be against the Amazon. com hands-off model, some firms like Face Time Communications are integrating AOL Instant Massager with their website eCommerce applications to answer last minute questions. Reports are that buy decisions increase six-fold if questions are answered. Customer Service is evolving, and it is alive and well on the web.
14. Double check the site architectural concepts.
15. There are obviously “things” that a Web architect must know. Much of this is contained in this site and many others linked to this site below. You still need to have a minds-eye image of what is possible before you spend too much money doing it. We recommend that for optimal search engine placement that you start by reviewing this site once, and then on the second pass spend more time on the Web by “surfing” my links and those linked from our links.
16. For all sites that you identify, go to their website and visit their home page. Choose the browser option to view their Home Page HTML source (this might be a complex process). Scan these sites for search engine placement keywords and terms to make sure that your list is as complete.
17. Marketing is everything. It brings potential buyers to your door. But proper design is vital, because without effective design the buyers who see your home page will leave before it finishes loading. The average home page loads in 48 seconds at 28. 8, and the average visitor stays at a home page for 35 seconds, obviously many leave before the page finishes loading. We can learn from this.
18. Create/Design the site by taking content and art, mixing it with navigation and style, testing it on family and friends, and always listen to comments, grunts, pregnant pauses, and blank stares. Specific advice on development of a page is at our Quality Site Criteria page and we suggest that you visit it now, before you code your first Web page! Try not to copy a page layout from another site. Use your own words, ideas, and artwork whenever possible, making sure that the message in the image matches your text. Make sure that the visitor knows what you are saying/selling at all times.
19. Carefully consider the use of database tools, visual tools, and java tools. These are areas receiving a lot of interest, and technology work, and they might be right for your site. Carefully consider your options since some could adversely affect search engine placement.
20. Use the smallest graphics that you can to relay your message. It is estimated that 20% of all Web users surf the Web without graphics enabled! But always have graphics if it helps sell your product. Don’t add graphics just to be neat — an animated mail box is really not something to add to a commercial site.
Follow these rules (mandatory for Free Site Listings)
• Make sure the site is rated for Family Viewing (keep it clean).
• Be courteous to other authors at all times — respect their copyrights, trademarks, and intellectual property.
• Make sure the site is NOT a multi-level marketing site, a network marketing site, or a get rich quick site (although some MLM sites can get into the free lists if they are not moderated).
• Make sure the site is NOT graphically overburdened. Minimize the use of CAPITAL letters, large fonts, and extensive graphics, especially animation.
• Make sure the site Home Page loads quickly and informs the visitor what you have to offer them right up front. If using sounds, use MIDI files whenever possible instead or WAV files, and default to off unless sounds are short. Be careful, some browsers crash with sound enabled.
• If you entice visitors with a FREE OFFER or CONTEST, make sure you explain how to obtain the gift or prize in an obvious manner. (FREE is good, but contests usually don’t work and there may be legal problems).
• Always choose to communicate information rather than to display wiz-bang nifty technical skills. These gadgets are a no-no to many free sites even if mandatory for some award sites. Animation, although exciting to see sometimes, is a real distraction on most pages and actually decreases sales. Avoid it unless there is a purpose.
• If you are going to be selling a service or product, take the time to establish a merchant account and accept credit cards. The good news is that this is easily implemented with or without a store. The bad news is that it takes effort to set it up. It is strongly suggested that you visit our page on e-commerce considerations and follow those instructions carefully!

Search Engine Placement through Search Engines, Links, and Awards
Before submission you must have prepared your site for search engine placement. If your site is not prepared for top ranking then a submission service can only give you many, many poor rankings.

There are many Web businesses offering to list your site with search engines or directories for FREE for a few sites, and for a small fee for other sites. The key is that over time, the categories change, the registration format changes, and there is a great difference between being submitted and being registered. At present, there is a 25% mortality rate for search engine sites every few months, and those that survive do so by upgrading categories and registration formats.

Search engine placement requires some homework. Before making this commitment, make a written note with the below information:
1. Your Web address (URL) in the form of http://www. yoursite. com
2. Your email address in the form of yourname@yoursite. com
3. The title of your Home Page in the form of “yoursite -products for {need}”
4. A 40 character product description
5. A ten to twelve word site description (your site probably)
6. A twenty-five word site description
7. A forty word site description (keep in your paste buffer). Consider using this text at the top of the displayed area on your home page.
8. A list of sixteen to twenty words best describing criteria that a prospective visitor would use in a search engine to find your site
9. A complete list of keywords (up to 1000 characters) sequenced with the most important first (possibly from your HTML Keywords line)

Discover the Answers to the Top 10 SEO Questions

Owning any type of online business will strongly benefit from a few SEO techniques. However, everyone and their brother has advice on how to do it. All this ‘expert’ advice can make the simple task of optimizing your site incredibly confusing. Here are some straightforward answers to the most common SEO questions. 1. What is SEO?SEO stands for search engine optimization. A search engine is a tool many internet users use to find sites that are relevant to their needs. The three biggies when it comes to search engines are Google, Yahoo and MSN. There are however, hundreds of search engines available to internet users. Search engines work by sending out spiders to crawl through the World Wide Web and gather information. If you have the information they’re looking for, in the places they are looking, they’ll find you and place you in their results when a person is looking for your information.  The task of understanding what search engines are looking for and putting it in the right places on your website and in your content, is the essence of search engine optimization. So now you might be asking…what do search engines look for and where do they look for it? The answer is keywords and links. Keywords in your html coding, keywords on your webpage content, keywords in your content, and the number of incoming links you have to your website. 2. How important is SEO?Let’s just put it this way. What’s better a few visitors who stumble upon your website or hundreds of visitors that go to your website with the direct intention of learning more or making a purchase? With more and more people searching and shopping online, getting on the first page or two of the search engine results can mean the difference between keeping your day job and becoming an internet millionaire. 3. What are text links?Links are just one of the tools you can use to increase your search engine optimization. The more quality links you have, the better your search engine ranking will be. Text links are links that contain only text. Wikipedia is a great place to examine internal text links. The links are contained within a sentence and when a reader clicks on them they are taken to a different page on the same website. The kind of text links you’re looking for will be text links that will take readers from your article, ebook, or web copy to your website. An excellent tool to generate incoming links is to write copy for online audiences like article directories, blogs, and ezines and insert text links in the copy. Webmasters will link to the content and thus to your site. Additionally, when you allow free reprints of your copy provided the links are maintained, you’re encouraging links to your website. 4. What are link farms and link exchanges?Search engines don’t accept just any old link. The link has to be from a relevant and quality company. This means you don’t want to participate in link farming. If a search engine suspects your links to be lacking, they’ll actually penalize you. Link farming or link exchanging is essentially the process of exchanging reciprocal links with Web sites in order to increase your search engine ranking. A link farm is a Web page that is nothing more than a page of links to other sites. Stay away from link farms. When you generate a link from another site, it had better be relevant and coming from a real web site. 5. What is duplicate content? The definition of duplicate content is web pages that contain substantially the same content. Search engines will penalize you for this. How do you avoid duplicate content? Don’t publish the same article in several locations. There are many tools available online to help you re-write your content so that it is 30%, 40%, and even 50% different. However, the best way to avoid duplicate content is to simply write new content. 6. How do I find the right keywords? There are several steps to finding the most profitable keywords. The first step is to generally do a bit of brainstorming and come up with a list of keywords you think people will use to find your products. The next step is to research supply and demand for those particular keywords. Supply means how many other websites are using those same keywords and demand is how many people are looking for those particular keywords. The key is to find keywords with high demand and relatively low supply. There are many effective and useful keyword tools to help you find this information and to generate keyword ideas. Once you decide on a few keywords, it may be useful to do a bit of testing before you commit to them. 7. How do I optimize my web pages?Placing your keywords in the right location is a good start to optimizing your web pages. Search engines look to the headings, subheadings, domain name, and title of your website. They also look in the content on your page and primarily focus on the first paragraph. Try to get a domain name with your primary keyword included. When you include your keyword in your URL it tells the search engine spiders immediately what your site is about. Title Tag. Your title tag is the line of text that appears on search engine results pages that acts as a link to your site. This is a crucial element of your webpage as it describes to your visitors what your page is about. If you view your source code, your title tag will look something like this: <TITLE>Search Engine Optimization Tips</TITLE>Keep your title tags brief, descriptive, up to date, and keyword rich will help to increase the relevance of your site in the eyes of the search engines, as well as giving your potential visitors a good idea of what they can expect from your site. Meta Tags have lost their importance to the search engines however it is still helpful to place your keywords in your meta tags. In your source code they look something like this: <META NAME=”description”8. Do I need to submit my site to the search engines? The simple answer is – no. Search engine spiders are always out there doing their job and collecting information. Every time you update your website, add content, or change your keywords, the search engines capture the information and record it. However, if you want to be listed on a directory, like the DMOZ Open directory project, then you will need to submit to those. 9. What are spiders?Search engine spiders are also called web crawlers or bot. They’re basically automated programs which scan websites to provide information to search engines often for the purpose of indexing or ranking them. 10. How does content help my SEO?Content is one of the best tools to improve your search engine ranking. It is a great place to emphasize keywords, encourage linking to your site, and increase traffic. The key to content is to make sure you’re offering quality content and you’re updating your website and your content frequently. Content can be provided in many forms including:• Blogs• Forums and chat rooms• Articles• Reviews• Case studies• Reports• How to guides• Tutorials• e-books and much more.

SEO Elite Software Review

SEO Elite is a search engine optimization software product designed to get user’s websites to the top of the search engines. Unlike most SEO tools, SEO Elite appears to be created for the average webmaster. The interface is very straightforward and built with a sort of “wizard-like” appearance.

There are 8 main project types within SEO Elite. Each project type represents an entirely new software product. So, essentially SEO Elite includes 8 software programs, all rolled into 1. The project types are as follows:

1. Analyze backlinks using a specified search engine

2. Get links to your website

3. Analyze allinanchor, allintitle, and allintext

4. Verify that link partners are still linking back

5. Find where your website is ranked in the search engines

6. Find how many pages are indexed

7. Find possible authority websites

8. Submit your article to article directories

For the most part, each project type is self-explanatory, but I will do my best to briefly explain each project type in our review below:

Project 1 review: Analyze backlinks using a specified search engine

The purpose of this project is to spy on your competition in order to see who is linking to them and exactly how they’re doing it. The theory here is that the search engines rank websites based primarily on the quality and quantity of sites linking the particular site in question. If the website has more quality links than another site, it will rank higher. With this SEO Elite project, you can quickly see who is linking to whatever site you enter into the software.

Project 2 review: Get links to your website

The purpose of this project is to do just that… Get links to your website. In order to rank higher in the search engines, you need websites to link to you. This project allows you to find quality websites and gathers their contact information, and then allows you to contact them from directly within the software… cutting down on the time it takes you to contact the potential link partner.

Project 3 review: Analyze allinanchor, allintext, and allintitle

This project type allows you to compare, side by side, the regular search results for a given keyword, as compared to Google’s advanced search criteria.

Project 4 review: Monitor whether link partners are still linking back

This project type allows you to input a links page on your website and SEO Elite will then visit each link partner on that page and will tell you whether or not they are still linking back to your site. We’ve found that many times link partners will just remove your link without you knowing.

Project 5 review: Monitor where your site is ranked in the SE’s

This project is a neat one in that it allows you to see where your site ranks for as many different keyword phrases as you want. SEO Elite also gives you a very nice little graph that visually shows rises and drops in ranking.

Project 6 review: Find out how many pages are indexed

You can input either your website or a competitor’s website and see how many of the website’s pages have been indexed by all of the major search engines. You can also see which pages, and the PR and Alexa rank of those pages.

Project 7 review: Find possible authority websites

I personally like this project type the most. You can input a keyword and SEO Elite will compare all of the top ranked website’s links and will tell you which are “common links” between all of the websites. Those common links are potential authority websites and ones that you should approach for a link exchange of some sort. A link from those sites will help your ranking the most.

Project 8 review: Submit your article to article directories

There are entire software applications that do nothing but submit your articles to article directories. What’s cool about this project type is that it’s essentially a $100+ program al rolled into 1 project type. There are roughly 50 article directories within SEO Elite and this project type steps you through submitting to the directories in a very straightforward, easy way.

To conclude our review of SEO Elite, I would say that it is a solid program that was easy to use. There was a manual that came with this software, as well as many tutorial videos… but to be honest, the software was so straightforward, we found ourselves not really needing to read any help guides etc. SEO Elite gets two thumbs up.

SEO Primer – 7 Basics of SEO

Getting you started with Search Engine OptimizationThis article is for the new web designer or business owner who wants to achieve a good placement for their web site in the search engines but doesn’t know how. We are going to look at 7 Basics of SEO below. These aren’t the only things you will want to know about SEO, but these are the areas you should learn about first. I have the topics listed in the order that you should approach them. Some topics will only take you a minute, some will take a little longer (cleaning up HTML code), and others will become an ongoing process (Keywords). But, after reading through this list you should have a good handle on where to start and where to proceed next. SEO Basic 1. Let’s start off with a definition. If you don’t understand what SEO is then you will not be able to properly optimize your site. SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization” and is the process by which you Optimize (adjust) your web site so that it is positioned well in the search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc). This is not the same thing as designing a site so that it attracts customers and entices them to buy. That is a completely different discussion. SEO is what you do specifically on your site to improve your Search Engine Position. If you do a search on Google for any search term you will be presented with a list of links. At the top of the page and along the right side will be PPC (Pay-Per-Click) links where someone pays an amount per click to get positioned. Basically with PPC, the more you pay the better your position. Most people only glance at these listings. You don’t need SEO to get one of these positions, just lots of money. The main section of page contains the “natural” or “organic” listings. These links are listed in the order that Google has determined best fit your search query, with the best match listing first. There are only 10 listings per page and most people will only look at the 1st page, and maybe the 2nd. So your site needs to be listed within the top 10 and at the very worst within the top 20 to get any useful exposure. This is where SEO comes in. With SEO you will be adjusting your sites code so that the search engine will rank your site high up in the listings. This can be a daunting process as there may be tens of thousands of sites competing for the same top listing. One trick here is to aim your pages at less popular search terms to get higher placement. It is much better to be on the top of page one for a term that gets 1000 searches per month than to be on page three for a search term that gets millions of visits (almost no one looks at page three or beyond). SEO Basic 2. Your web site has to be search engine friendly, so fix any bad code. The search engines send out “spiders” or “bots” that look over the whole internet, cataloging and categorizing web pages that they come across. If the search engine runs into trouble getting through your pages then it will either rank your page poorly, or worse skip your site all together. Making your site Search Engine Friendly means having the code easily accessible (no frames), not having mistakes in the code (check the code for errors), and guiding the search engine through your web site (good navigation). So, try to steer away from complicated coding as much as possible. Things like Flash web sites look great, but they can cause search engine problems. Check your site for any coding errors, this is fairly easy to do with web design programs like Dreamweaver which will do this for you automatically. And, plan on having a text based navigation bar on every page. This is usually placed at the bottom of the pages. You may also want to consider having a “Site Map” page in your web site with easy to follow text based links to all of your important pages. Search Engines will look for a Site Map page and will use that to navigate a web site if available. SEO Basic 3. By far the #1 Most Important Aspect of SEO is: Keywords. Keywords are the terms you type into a search engine to find interesting web sites to look at. You need to know what search terms people are likely to use to find your web site and then use those terms as your Keywords on your site. Start by making a list of all the keyword combinations you can think of that you would use to find your web site. Try them all on a search engine and see what you come up with. You now need to see how these search terms perform on the web and what other possible search terms could be used for the same sites. There are several tools on the internet to help you with this research. A great free tool is available at Google:https://adwords. google. com/select/KeywordToolExternalGoogle will let you type in a search term then give you a list of similar search terms, how often they were searched in the previous month and some advertiser comparison figures for Google Adwords. This allows you to quickly find additional keywords and to see how well they perform. As we mentioned in SEO Basic 1 a good idea is to optimize your site for a less frequently used keyword or keyword combination so that you can achieve a higher placement. The Google Keyword Tool will help you figure this out. Look for only 1 or two keywords to focus on in any given page. Many times keywords will overlap, so you can focus on a longer keyword combination and cover many other keyword combinations at the same time. For instance if you are designing a page to sell Photoshop Training you can optimize for this keyword phrase “Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets” This will not only give you optimized performance for this keyword combination but also for these other keywords and combinations as well:AdobePhotoshop TrainingAdobe PhotoshopPhotoshop TrainingAdobe Photoshop TrainingPhotoshop Training VideoAdobe Photoshop Training VideoPhotoshop Training Video SetsSo try to come up with a multiple keyword combination that will contain several other keyword combinations as well. Once you know what keywords you want to use you are ready to place those keywords on your page. The main places you want to use the keywords are:In the title of the page (title meta tag)In the description of the page (description meta tag)In the first sentence on the pageIn all of the image alt tagsIn links to and from the pageWell represented in the body text of the pageThe keyword meta tag is no longer looked at by the search engines, but I still put my keywords in that tag so that I have an easy reference for my own use when doing SEO. Make sure you Pick the right keywords, and make sure they cover more than 5% of the word usage on the page. An easy way to get more keywords onto a page is by using lists such as:We carry:• Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets for Educators• Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets for Students• Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets for Business• Adobe Photoshop Training Video Sets for Hobbyists Keep in mind that your page text should still be user friendly. If you use your keywords too frequently or in strange ways on your page, it may rank better in the search engines, but it will drive away visitors. Who wants to read a poorly written page?SEO Basic 4. “Don’t try anything funny”. There are lots of “tricky” things you can do to cram more keywords into a page without annoying your visitors. The problem is that the search engines know about these tricks and will penalize your site if you use them. So don’t do any of the following or you may find your web site disappear completely from the search engine listings. White letters on white background, or any other similar text coloring trick. Even using a very light gray text on a white background, or very dark gray text on a black background can get you bumped from the search engines. Don’t repeat your keyword over and over again. People used to do things like this at the top or bottom of their pages: Photoshop Photoshop Photoshop Photoshop Photoshop. The worked in the early days of search engine optimization, but no longer. You should also not try this trick in alt tags, image names, links or other places in your code. The search engines will spot this and you will be penalized. Don’t put keywords into comment tags like this: . Also don’t put keywords in hidden form fields like this: : . The search engines will spot these and mark you down accordingly. For the same reason don’t create any hidden links as a place to hide keywords. Even though putting keywords into image names and alt tags is a great idea, don’t think that you can just create a bunch of clear gif images sized at 1×1 and fill those with keywords. The search engines are very good at spotting tricks like this as well. So, use your keywords appropriately, don’t try to sneak one past the search engines and you should do just fine. Just keep in mind, if you think that you need to hide the keywords to trick the search engine you can rest assured that they have already thought of that and will do their best to devalue your site accordingly if you use these “black hat” tricks. SEO Basic 5. All pages should have links to other pages. The main search engines like links. They like outside sites linking into yours but they also like links within your site going to other pages. So in this case having more pages can be useful. Also since you now have all these pages that you are linking to it gives you a great place to use some more keywords. Make sure that your links include your keywords. But, and this could have been in section 4 above, don’t create “doorway pages” that redirect you to another page. It used to be common SEO practice to create lots (hundreds) of doorway pages, each one stuffed with specific keywords, all of which would redirect the visitor to the actual page they were looking for. This would give your site lots of pages, with lots of internal links and would allow you to tightly optimize these doorway pages for specific keywords, but . . .   the search engines have gotten wise to this trick and now penalize the use of redirect pages. So don’t use redirects unless you absolutely need to. And never use doorway pages. SEO Basic 6. Only try to optimize a page for one or two keyword groups. More than that just dilutes your keyword ratio. The search engines will analyze your web page to determine which words are used as keywords. They do this by looking at the title, the description, the page heading and the word use on the page. They will then determine how relevant your keywords are to your page. So if you try to use too many different keywords on a page it will only bring down the percentage of any individual keyword or group for that page. It is better to optimize for a larger keyword group as discussed above than to try to optimize a page for a lot of individual keywords that can’t be easily used on one sentence. If you need to have a page optimized for several different, unrelated keywords you are better off creating several different pages and re-writing the body text on each page to match the keywords you are optimizing for. This will make each page relevant for the specific keyword and will get a better placement in the search engines. SEO Basic 7. Be patient. Even with a perfectly optimized web site it can take several months for it to rise in the search engine standings. I usually recommend waiting at least 90 days and up to 6 months to see how well a web page is doing in the search engines. Also, even though you have gone to great lengths to target a specific keyword or keyword combination keep in mind that the search engines aren’t required to agree with you. So when checking your standings look at several different search terms that you discovered in your research and see how well your page is placing. Hopefully you will find that your chosen keywords are getting your page listed the way you want, showing that your SEO has worked properly. If you find that your page is ranking better for a different keyword, you should examine your page code to see why and make adjustments as needed. Maybe your page is placing higher for a keyword combination you weren’t focusing on, but it is still a good combination for your goals. This gives you an ideal opportunity to go with that new combination to achieve even higher placing. So, get started right now on your SEO. The longer you wait, the longer it will be before your web site is showing well up in the search engines. In closing:There is a lot more to SEO than just these 7 quick points, but this will get you started on the right path. Go through these steps and your web pages will be well positioned for any other SEO you may want to perform on your site in the future.

SEO Tutorial – What you Should Really Know

Studies show that over 90% of all online users use search engines to find what they are looking for, whether products/services, or just plain old information.

The following twelve points will, I hope, summarize a philosophy, approach and methodology to the SEO question which is both sound and effective, along with giving some helpful insight into the industry itself.

1. Content. Content. Content.
Effective, professional, optimized Copywriting is the single, most important factor in any SEO campaign. Search engines index websites based on the content found on each page of the site. With a thorough understanding of the language and grammatical conventions combined with intensive research, to find and exploit the market focus, one can move a website to the upper echelon of the “SERP’s” (Search Engine Results Page) in a methodical as well as ethical manner. Take Help of Professional SEO Writers from http://www.contentwriter.info for top quality seo content.

2. Analyze Web Logs.
Measure everything, at least twice, and then check again. While I would be the first to say that many of the procedures that make up website optimization are more art than science, one needs to take a very scientific approach to the results of the effort. This is done by methodically keeping a record of, and making an analysis of the sites web logs. There are a number of specialized software which make the job easier but at the bare minimum, one needs to keep a close eye on the site visitors and their activity while on the site. No matter how well planned the strategy, it is largely theoretical until proven by the results, which can only be measured by the logs, and a thorough analysis of their content.

3. No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google, or any other search engine.
Those who promise such feats will either optimize for such vague search term phrases (such as, “green stunted widgets with purple Polka-dots and icing”) that no one will ever likely look for, or they are making a false claim, which they have no intention of keeping, or they have an inside edge at Google, something which they will loose, quickly, when the honest folks at Google find out about it. The other option, that they will take the money and run, is worth mentioning here but I’ll be polite.

4. Some things are just plain silly.
You don’t need to submit your site to 50,000 search engines. Businesses which offer this service are suspect, at best. 85% of the search results on the Internet come from one search engine, which, if you have one link from an established website, or better yet, a directory, will find your site just fine, on it’s own. Four (4) search engines account for over 90% of the traffic on the web. As for any supposed benefit which may accrue from being listed in an obscure search engine in Botswana which specializes in safaris to the Kalahari Desert and receives 7 hits per day; well, you figure it out.

5. SEO is not Pay-per-Click.
While no one would argue the effectiveness of getting increased traffic and sales, through a well planned, pay-per-click campaign, the fact remains that the conversion rates are generally low and they cease the moment the “pay” stops. With a well planned and executed SEO campaign, while results may take a bit longer, they continue to produce, and in fact grow, long after the work is done and paid for. Quite often we have found that after a thorough optimization of a site, only minor adjustments are needed on an ongoing basis, primarily related to new content and/or new items of sale or service.

6. SEO is not witchcraft, Druidism, shamanism.
Neither does it require any special chants, ceremonial fires, or vestments, though some of us do like to howl at the full moon, on occasion. There are no “Top Secret” practices which a reputable SEO can not tell a client, a judge, or his mother, for that matter. The very nature of the Internet has always been cooperative and there is nothing about SEO that can’t be learned, with a heavy dose of time and money. A reputable SEO firm will give you an item per item breakdown of just where the money goes. Be wary if you sense a secretive atmosphere or any unwillingness to answer questions. While there are technical points which might take some background to fully understand, if one has a solid overview of the entire situation, a simple explanation should be easy enough to come up with.

7. Do-it-yourself SEO.
Yes, you can execute your own SEO campaign and find a reputable SEO firm to help plan and organize it for you. About one half of my own clientele do some part of the actual work themselves, or have their in-house dedicated personnel do it, after discussion of the goals and aims of the business/website, a thorough website analysis, comprehensive search phrase research, and focused instruction on the ways and means of achieving high SERPs. These preliminaries are followed up with a detailed program of suggestions and methods which the client can then implement themselves or hire others to perform. Average savings; 30-40%.

8. Phased Implementation.
While many companies spend thousands of dollars per month on Search Engine Optimization, an alternative is available which will pay dividends to you in increased sales and leads without the high initial investment. The most important consideration is to have a reputable firm handle the initial evaluation and suggested optimization planning first. The trial and error method will cost much more, in the long run, with or without the desired result. After studying the plan and establishing a workable budget you may implement the plan as finances allow.

9. Remember the old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
Never was this more true than in the realm of SEO. While concrete and measurable gains will always come from a well thought out and executed optimization strategy, the Internet is a competitive media and we all want to be number one. Accept that a steady upward movement, over time, will place you worlds ahead of a flash followed by a crash.

10. A thought to ponder.
At stake, in the race for the top, is the very existence of your website, your business, and quite possibly your reputation. Beware of any “shortcuts” or less than ethical schemes that anyone might suggest to further your business goals. When it’s all said and done it is you, the business owner, who bears the responsibility for any company or individual you hire. Insist on knowing exactly what the strategy is and what steps are being performed to implement it. If it seems, in the least, suspicious, ask for and get an explanation. In this case, not only is Ignorance not bliss, it could very well be the beginning of the end for your business.

11. All incoming links are not created equal.
Both the relevance to your line of business and website subject matter and the PR value of the incoming link determine how valuable they are to your own PR ranking. With Google starting the trend, nothing new there, and most of the others following close behind, the days of grabbing all the inbound links, in any way possible, are gone. Not only will low ranked and/or irrelevant inbound links not help, they will, in fact, cause a penalty. Link farms, free-for-all link schemes, automated link accumulation software, or any other fad that doesn’t carefully screen the links and websites they are coming from will, in the long run, do more harm than good.

12. It’s more than just facts and figures.
The relationship between an online business and SEO is, perhaps, one of the closest of business relationships. In order to be effective, a SEO must know not only the facts and figures pertaining to the endeavor, but s/he must know something of the dreams and aspirations of the business principals. Things which don’t normally come out in a prospectus are often invaluable information when searching for the “right fit” into the complex world of the Internet. My own clients sometimes ask, due to the frequency of my calls and email in the early phases, “Am I your only client?” I usually laugh and say something to the effect that until I know your business almost as well as you do, yes, you are the only one that counts.
