It is luring the reader to believe that they will gain some “secret” that only the author knows, when in fact it is nothing more than a statement that has got the reader intrigued and the only way to satisfy the intrigue is to pay for the information.

 

SEO is a very relevant issue – probably not a subject that I would consider in line with the Membership issue – and to try and cover it here would be a long journey for both you as the reader and me as the writer. Collectively, you would need to take all of the ebooks written on the subject, you would say that they each have valid and good points, but you need to digest them all before you can put together the whole picture. By digesting valid points from each eBook that the writer has read on the subject bringing each point into practice and validating what does work.  

 

The writer was able to demonstrate this, by putting theory into practice and all of the “tips and secrets” learned. On May 14th the writer took one of her websites which had an Alexa Ranking of 5,584,593 and a Google Page Rank of -0/10, she applied the newly learned knowledge of SEO from the stacks of ebooks that she had read, and within two months she managed to cause the website’s Alexa Ranking to be less than 500,000 and also bring the Google Page Rank to 2/10. 3. I think it would be a great place where one could turn to and discuss topics that others have come across, so everyone could be helpful to everyone else. After all, we were put here to serve and this would be one way to give back.  

 

My Response: This is a comment the writer is in full agreement with. Forums are great membership sites and that is what they are all about – somewhere for people to talk to other people about the subject that they are both interested in.

 

4. Not be badgered about upgrading. Small steps to gain full access. Something usable that I can implement and make a few bucks from rather than just storing it on my hard-drive.

 

My Response: Yes, by small steps, the membership site should be one that allows its members to explore first and have available any further offers as the member feels they need. One of the most annoying things encountered on most membership sites, are the One Time Offers. Site owners Give Away a Free Membership, and then offer an Upgrade once you are in. While the practice of Free Membership is not a bad thing, the One Time Offer should be just that. An offer made “one time”. But what is in theory a good thing, in practice becomes something else entirely. Most membership sites dish up the same one time offer every time you log in, and that does not promote a feeling of honesty or ethics on the part of the site owner. This practice should be avoided. Make the offer and then leave it to the individual to make the decision if they need it later. Have the product available on the inside of the membership; however not at the “reduced price” it was initially offered during the OTO.

 

5. Lots of free gifts and giveaways, everyday of the week.

 

My Response: Free giveaways are always nice. There are several issues that arise within this “request”- the first being that you can only give away products that have a license to give away. A number of products don’t allow you to “Give” them away, therefore you need to remember that the license is an extremely important factor in what you can give or must sell to your members.

 

The writer has taken part in several Giveaways to help “build the list”. The one thing that was noticed with the people who were happy to receive the very valuable giveaway item(s), was that these “Freebie Seekers” are just that. They want everything for free, but are unwilling to even open an email that is sent to them afterwards. Conclusion: The quality of that list is zero.

The main challenge and time-consuming task is finding . gov sites that are dofollow in nature.   Dofollow is just internet slang for a site not containing the “nofollow” tag in its source code.   You can find this out a couple ways.   I like using the SearchStatus Firefox add-on which can automatically highlight in red a page’s nofollow links.   The manual way is to review the source code by pressing control-U and then control-F to search for the term “nofollow”.   Finding  a nofollow tag inside the <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker. _trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”website name”…> anchor text essentially means that your . gov site passes on no pagerank or “link juice” to your site and thus no value in Google’s eyes. You can individually sort through the thousands of . gov sites looking for the dofollow ones.   Or you can review the short list I included on my blog.   These are some of the one’s that I’ve used lately and that work.   However, I must caution you.   Spammers and comment generating computer programs should stay away.   Many of these sites still have comment moderators that can easily delete your comment.   While the topic may not identically match your given niche, be sure to demonstrate a personal, genuine touch.   Giving your honest opinion on a topic instead of leading with your affiliate link is the general rule of thumb. Most of sites require registration first.   Create a profile and a signature file (for comments) containing your web address.    Include your link in comments by using anchor text or your signature file. This is a story about a poor guy with an inept domain that wanted to build a site geared for a very competitive keyword and his long, agonizing journey toward the true light of SEO wisdom. Here’s a little foundation for what I’m about to cover here. A while back I bought a stupid domain name. It was one of those fairly useless domain names that might have been good for maybe selling cellphones or something. The thing is, though, I’m a poor guy. I don’t have time to taylor a site for cellphones with the pitiful amount of money I have. This was my thinking not long ago at least. After sitting on this domain name forever I decided to put a site up there and give myself to the study of SEO or search engine optimization. It seemed like an interesting subject and I knew to those that managed to learn SEO, marketing, and some web design would fall infinite riches. It really sounded good to me. So I went for the throat so to speak. More precisely I picked out some search terms that I will probably never be able to get traffic for in my lifetime. Smart I know. This had the grand side effect of having the site sandboxed by Yahoo and Google until pigs flew. Recently they flew, however, and I’ve come out of the sandbox altogether and hit face to face with a few SEO surprises. I did manage to get a tiny trickle of traffic but not from the terms I tried to get it from. After trying to optimize those pages for the key terms I received traffic from I got more traffic. This of course started me down a long road of speculation and hair pulling. After many a night of such I’ve come up with a few things that I believe will give anyone the power to eventually pull traffic off the net and covert it into a good decent living. I’ll probably write an ebook and make millions one of these days. Optimize by the page Don’t fall into the trap of focusing totally on building this far flung and far reaching site that will rule the world or make you millions instantly. Select a phrase that is as specific as possible to your particlar niche and still gets a couple thousand or so searches per month from Yahoo. Whatever you do, make sure that one web page has good, solid, desirable content that is keyword rich and one of a kind. This will help make it special. At the same time your content obviously needs to lead the customer toward your intented goal for monetizing your traffic. Keep it simple I’ve found to my dismay that building a complex web site with all the content management stuff and all the database thrills isn’t exactly what really gets the attention of search engines. Weirdly enough this can be true for internet surfers too. A nice, clean layout with very accessible content and intuitive navigation will be recognized by both search engines and surfers alike. If you can figure that part out you’ve just pinned down about 90% of SEO in my opinion. Engineer your site for your traffic When you start getting search engine traffic to your site take a very close look at what they are searching for. I assume you have some kind of statistics program and can mostly see what search terms people are using to get to your site. When someone comes in on a keyword or phrase you haven’t optimized for do a little research. Does the page they are coming to need touched up to include the search term or would this search term merit its own search engine optimized page to handle the traffic. Conclusion With every page you add you are gaining another potentially valuable piece of internet real estate. If you’re doing your job right then eventaully each page should get its own traffic and you should begin to attain your goals.
