Newsletter design is mainly concerned with HTML and PDF newsletters. Text newsletters are nothing but plain text. They do not offer the rich formatting that HTML provides. In a text newsletter, you cannot use tables, pictures, hyperlinks, colors, fonts, etc. All you can use is text. However, text newsletters have advantages as well. Their main advantage is that they are compatible with all the different email clients available. They are also quick to load since they have no photos. They also keep the newsletter content as the main focus of the reader without distracting his/her attention with photos or colors.
HTML newsletters appear to be taking over text newsletters. The HTML newsletter is steadily growing in popularity and many newsletter publishers are moving toward HTML because the options it provides. With HTML, you can fully customize your newsletter, you can change colors, add tables, insert photos, use hyperlinks, change background colors, and play around with fonts. The main disadvantage of HTML was the fact that some email clients were compatible with it and therefore do not format it properly. This turn your newsletter into a mass of incomprehensible code.
To avoid this drama, newsletter publishers started sending out their newsletters into two formats HTML and plain text. Nowadays, more email clients accept HTML. HTML newsletters are more interactive with the reader than plain text ones. They sparkle with life as they use colors and photos. As it is said a photo can save one a load of words. For example when reviewing a product, it is inevitable to use a photo. It has been claimed that the use of photos in reviews increases conversion considerably. So by not using photos, you are leaving money on the table.
If you are not comfortable working with HTML or using HTML editors for your newsletter design, you can use ready-made HTML newsletter templates. There are some websites offering free templates for you to download.

Yep it’s a good point you have.. Also, finding a newsletter template for new business starters is really easy.. Just Google: “Free newsletter template”.
Even though it’s getting way more popular, I don’t use it myself. I preffer having the core focus on the content, and actually, pure content mails is way more rare in my mailbox than flashy newsletters.
Good post!
