Simple SEO Tips for First Time Webmasters

In an ideal world, an excellent product or interesting content is all a new webmaster needs to draw in the masses. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t operate on a “if you build it, they will come” mentality. If you build it, they may or may not come — if you practice proper SEO, they’ll be there for sure.

USE KEYWORDS, AND USE THEM THE RIGHT WAY.

Keywords are arguably the biggest part of SEO, so pay attention. Visit Google AdWords to use the Keyword Tool if you haven’t already. It’s fairly simple to use and understand once you get the hang of it, but don’t get discouraged if it seems a bit confusing at first. Create a free account, then type in a word or phrase that describes your website.

What next? The Keyword Tool gives you a list of results for the words you just entered. It also provides a list of similar words and phrases that you can use. Click on the Columns menu and make sure “Approximate CPC” is selected. At the time this article was written, there were 1,600 global search results for “recipes for dads”, with an approximate CPC of $0.97. CPC is the cost-per-click.

Ignore the cost-per-click if you won’t be using Google Adsense on your site, but pay attention to the amount of global and local visits for each keyword or phrase. If the number is too high, you may have a lot of competition. If the number is too low, nobody will ever find your page. Aim for a keyword phrase with a search number between 3,000 and 6,000 if you’re new to SEO.

Once you have your keywords, use them the right way. Aim for a density of 2% to 5% on each page of your site. Remember, less is more when it comes keyword phrases. If you use too many, Google thinks your page is spam — and sends it to the bottom of the search results. You don’t want that.

BUILD LINKS.

Link optimization tells search engines that those words written all over your website are important. There are a few different ways to practice link optimization. Make sure that your anchor text includes keywords. Anchor text refers to the text in your URL links, such as the main link to your website, or the internal links that transport visitors to different parts of your site. If your website focuses on baking cupcakes, www.howtobakecupcakes.com is a good URL. A bad link would be www.stuffpeoplebake.com.

Backlinking is another form of link optimization. Backlinking is basically a way to say, “Hey Google, my page is important”. The more backlinks you have, the more Google likes your page — and that means a higher ranking in the search results. A backlink is just a fancy way to refer to places that link to your website. For example, if a blog or forum mentions your site, that’s a backlink. Create your own backlinks by including your link in the signature line when you post relevant comments on blogs, forums and message boards. Only post relevant links; Google knows when you’re just being spammy.

REMEMBER THAT THERE’S MORE TO LIFE THAN SEO.

SEO will bring visitors to your website, but it’s up to you to keep them there. Keep your content interesting — and fresh and make sure you use other marketing tactics such as email marketing to keep your customers coming back for more. Google changes its algorithm somewhat frequently, so stay on top of current SEO trends and updates.

Linkvana operates a large number of various weblogs which are at different locations and areas to keep you protected. All weblogs in their system have domain age, PR2 or above and website link recognition, which means lots of links directed to their blogs. Following joining linkvana you receive to make posts to their system of weblog networks. When your article is authorized in linkvana you will have the website link which you placed within that write-up pointing back to your website. Essentially you have got an user interface (I go through it on the video below) that lets you to go in and setup link projects. You are able to keep one website per project. You pick the category of your website, when you want your links to be sent out once you load them up, you can choose to have links go out every day, every other day, every 3 days etc.

There are 2 ways to get your links. You can choose to make posts which are short blurbs basically. Or you can submit articles that are longer and can include up to 3 links. Take Advantage of that. You then click send and it gets ready to be sent out into their Linkvana blog system. After approval your article or post will go onto one of their weblogs and also you may have a backlink. These blogs are PR2 blogs or higher.

Another feature i like is the ability to submit to eza, go articles and a few others right from the linkvana interface. I like how i can submit to other places within the interface because its very easy. What ive covered so far is the main functions of their program. Obviously the best part about linkvana is the ability to carry advantage of their massive colletion of high PR weblogs. This gives your links diversity.

I think their article writing service is WAY too costly to be taken seriously. I had a post and an article written and they were not worth it. A post of hundred words will cost you 2 dollars and a 300 word article will run you about $10! A little excessive in my personal view. Secondly the quality isn’t even that great for that kind of price. Of all the internet marketing course review i have done this is one of my favorite services.

Again I think their social bookmarking is another overpriced service they offer. 50 bookmarks will run you about 26 bucks. NO THANKS! If you plan to do a lot of bookmarking then you should buy software. One place you can find bookmark builders is forums like digital point.

Let’s imagine that we have just spent months working on a blog, or website, that’s all about fishing. The site that we have just created is packed full of great information that we are sure everyone is going to want to see. We are using highly searched after keywords, that have minimal competition.

After a week goes by, we decide to check our stats. We discover that we have only had 5 visitors all week. Does that mean that our site isn’t any good? No, of course not. What it really means is that we need more exposure! No one knows that this site really exists yet. We need to build up our traffic.

Our goal here is to get our site in the number one position in Google. How do you get the top ranking spot in the search engine? I’m glad you asked..

First of all, type your main keyword in the search bar and hit enter. Look through the results until you find your site. So for this example, we are 5th on page 2. That means we are in 15 position, and we need a little more power to climb up to # 1.

A well known strategy for ranking higher in the search engines is to build links back to your site. Imagine that these links count as points, or votes for your site. The more points you get the higher your site gets to go.

Link building through article marketing is the most effective way to approach this — doing it correctly is like striking gold. Article marketing doesn’t cost any money, but it will require a little bit of time and effort on your part.

If your article is good other sites will pick it up, and you stand the chance of gaining back links to your site. Which in turn, will help move you up to that top spot in the search engines. You will also gain targeted traffic, which can be very profitable, and makes it easy to make money online.

I stumbled across another link directory for blogs to submit to. The Blogger Black Book is a directory of blogs that companies can come and search to find blogs to post reviews or contests for them. Not only are you able to get backlinks, but you can get contacted by interested companies! Check it out, no way to lose. I will update this as I discover more. They are fairly new from what I can tell.
