You joined the blogging world five years ago. Last week, you finally got your first comment. After years of writing your heart out, you are excited to finally get noticed. But, then you notice your friend with a similar blog that started only a few weeks ago, is flying off the charts.
What took you so long to get noticed by one single person? You. You alone have the ability to attract readers, and promote your own blog. If you want to be a serious writer, start out by putting some serious effort into your blog. Start out with these three important steps to improve your blog:
- Focus On Content: Lets be honest. You love doughnuts, and your favorite coffee shop. Maybe your friends would too, but the probably don’t want to read about it every day. Branch out on your writing, and find topics that are “hot”. By that, we mean current events, trends, etc. Give your readers something to think about, chew on, and apply to their own lifestyle. If you give them something to really stomp on for a while, chances are they are going to come back for more. And comment.
- Focus On Function: Is your web site eye catching? Is the design clean? Clunky blogs filled with ugly background, boring music, and more graphics that you know what to do is, chances are that you are scaring your visitors away. Think of your blog as your house. It should be inviting, clean, and spacious to accommodate.
- Focus On Product: Believe it or not, your readers may eventually be interested in products. What’s this? It could be a weekly give away that you host featuring your favorite books, review for a local online business, free advertising to the first comment on a post, the list is endless. Find something to reward, and thank your readers. They will be excited, and share their earnings with another friend. Which means you get more readers in return.
Writing a popular blog isn’t rocket science. Start with the basics, and make them your priority. You’ll get results.

I think #1 is critical but your comment on branching out is definitely key. Too many people blog about the same thing that they always blog about and the same thing that everyone blogs about. Find your target audience and think about what they would want to read on a weekly basis. Make it good content and make it timely.

Mifta is correct.. and there are two faces of SEO, onpage and offpage.. the ‘focus on content’ part definitely is important in onpage SEO.. Still, big part of getting visitors are offpage and backlinking is still the way to go. Great tips still and those are indeed true.
Seo is very important today. Even if the content is good, without good seo the content will no be at top at google.
I think without good SEO the content will be be listed at google, even the content is good.
